About 偶寓 OuYu
偶寓 OuYu is a Chinese-language housing and roommate platform focused on New York City. Listings, roommate matching and rental know-how live in one place, so Chinese-speaking students and young professionals do not have to piece a search together from group-chat screenshots.
Who we are
偶寓 OuYu launched in 2026 and is built and maintained by a small independent team. We are not a brokerage or a developer, and we never charge tenants a broker fee. The site is available in Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and English.
We cover the New York metro area: Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and commuter towns such as Jersey City and Hoboken. Listings, roommate profiles and housing-wanted posts are published by users themselves; 偶寓 never handles rent or deposits and is not an escrow or guarantor service.
Why we built it
For Chinese speakers apartment-hunting in New York, the information is scattered across WeChat groups, Xiaohongshu posts and campus housing forums: the same room is reposted ten times, the price and the viewing slot have to be confirmed one DM at a time, and nobody's identity is verified. Judging whether a price is reasonable for a given neighborhood usually means asking around.
So we set out to fix two things: give listings and roommate searches one searchable, filterable home, and write down the rules that actually matter in New York — the deposit cap, broker fees, guarantors, renting without an SSN — as plain-language Chinese guides, each one citing an official source.
How verification works
Verification is progressive: every account starts from email verification, and two institutional tiers sit on top of it. Verified landlords carry the matching badge on their listings, and the listing feed has a “verified landlords only” filter.
- Email verification: confirm your inbox with a code after signing up. It is the minimum for publishing a listing.
- School email verification: receive a code at your school address; listings and roommate profiles then show “School verified · school name”.
- Company email verification: receive a code at your work address; listings then show “Company verified · company name”.
Verification makes identity a little more transparent, but it is not a guarantee. 偶寓 never touches your money and cannot vet an apartment or a lease for you, so please still work through the checklist below before a viewing or a payment.

Where the content comes from
Guides and articles are written by the 偶寓 editorial desk. There are currently 27 school and neighborhood guides plus 6 topic guides (lease terms, finding a roommate, broker fees, deposit rules, renting without an SSN, avoiding scams).
Every piece carries a visible “updated on” date and an author, and lists its sources at the bottom: the MTA, NYC Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), the NYC Rent Guidelines Board, the New York Attorney General's tenants' rights guide and other official pages. Rent ranges are estimates compiled from several sources, not live quotes.
